33 Things You Might Not Know About Me for My 33rd Birthday

Jenn month is almost over (wah!), and my birthday is tomorrow (yay!)

I'm not sure what we're up to yet, but because I want to sign off and be with my loves, I thought I'd post a day early and do something a little fun. So for my 33rd birthday (what? crazy), here are 33 random things you might not have known about me....

1. My middle name is Leigh, after my Grandma Le Ila. My confirmation name is Elizabeth, after my other Grandma (but she goes by Skip)

2. I went to a Catholic elementary school from Kindergarten - 8th grade. Uniforms and the whole 9 yards!

3. I prefer hardcover books to both softcover and ebooks, and I use the library more than I purchase them.

4. I was in a low-budget movie once. It was terrible, and my name is second-last in the credits....the only credit below me was the dog!

5. I used to play volleyball and soccer, and I was a cheerleader for two years. I loved volleyball and cheerleading but I LOATHED soccer (but kept playing it??)

6. I had asthma when I was a kid, and it was pretty bad when I was very young. I used to have bad attacks, and had to take medicine constantly. This is also the reason why I hated soccer, couldn't play wind instruments well, and why I still hate cardio like nothing else in this world.

7. I grew up in Western New York (Buffalo/Niagara Falls area), moved to Charlotte, NC when I was 19, and came back when I was 25. I hope to never leave again!!

8. I have an associates degree in Humanities & Social Sciences and I'm a certified Teacher Assistant in NYS. I don't use either, but I plan to once all my littles are in school full time.

9. I started drinking coffee when I was 8.

10. I have 1 biological sister, 1 step-sister, and 2 ex-step-sisters. I just call them all sisters, and don't think of our relation to each other any differently.

11. I'm a wild chocoholic, and I don't think there is such a thing as too much chocolate.

12. I'm a total Potterhead, and I don't care what anyone says...I'm proud to be a Hufflepuff. If it's good enough for Edward...;)

13. I hate the number 13. It skeeves me out to to type it or include it in a list, I never leave the TV volume on 13 even though it's really the perfect volume, and if I'm reading a book and I'm ready for a break, I won't stop if it means I'd end on a 13 (like 113 or 213.)

14. I tend to like odd-numbered years and ages best. Couldn't tell you why.

15. Since I'm on a number streak, 15 and its multiples are my favorite. 3, 5, 15, 25....I don't know why but those have always felt good to me, and seem to bring me luck. Fun fact: 2 of my boys were born on the 15th and one on the 25th. I know, I'm a number weirdo, it's okay.

16. I had a dermoid tumor. Ever hear of those crazy ones that grow eyes and hair and stuff? Yep. One of those. It's basically a rogue egg that started growing body parts on its own. I had it removed when my first son was born (which is why I had c-sections with all 3.) I'm thankful that it was benign, but...gross. Do yourself a favor and don't google it.

17. I am Gluten Free and also don't eat corn or processed meats. Our whole family eats this way for our oldest son, Luke - he has Irritable Bowl Disease and not only has sensitivities to these, but also has trouble producing his own gut bacteria. This diet, plus probiotics, vitamin D  & reflexology keeps him healthy (and it works for all of us, too!)

18. I've moved 16 times, and the house I'm living in now is the place I've lived the longest (7 years)

19. I started blogging in 2001 on a site called Open Diary, and switched to Blogger in 2007 where I've been ever since. Open Diary was shut down a few years ago, but it's coming back this year!

20. My Dad is adopted, and he and his family started reaching out to each other in the past 10 years or so. It's cool to get to know our history and heritage a little better, now.

21. That said, I'm mostly Polish and Italian. (Some Lithuanian - which is basically more Polish, and a teeeeeny tiny bit of Asian.)

22. Also, I'd really like to adopt some day. I'm not sure if it's feasible...I wouldn't want to do it out of my 30's (can't imagine starting over with baby/toddlerhood after that) but I'm not sure we could swing it in that amount of time, either. So it's maybe a lofty dream, but a dream nonetheless.

23. My favorite food is Indian.

24. My Starbucks order is a grande pike with triple half and half. In fall it's either that, or a nonfat vanilla latte with a pump of pumpkin spice. In winter it's either pike, or a nonfat peppermint mocha.

25. I really, REALLY dislike butterflies and moths. Or really any insect that flies.

26. I once interviewed a General Hospital actress for a project where I wrote a blog from her character's perspective. Her character was dealing with teenage pregnancy, and the project was meant to bring awareness to the topic and open up discussion.

27. I can sew, although not professionally. I made my junior prom dress, many many (many) quilts, pillows, curtains, banners, purses, and lots of other little things. I also like to hand embroider and crochet.

28. Growing up, our family fostered kittens for the SPCA - we took care of and named SO MANY kittens! There were special cases over the years, too. Right when Matt and I started dating, we had a small litter of 3 kittens whose mom died saving them from a house fire. I took them in for a checkup one afternoon (they had to be weighed a lot to see when they were ready for shots and adoption), and they asked me to take on an abandoned feral kitten that was the same age as our current foster litter. I agreed, knowing we had to bottle feed this extra little guy, and he may never be as friendly as most cats. We ended up keeping him - he's Odin! (He's the white kitty on our Meet The Fam page) And for the record, he's the best cat I've ever had!!

29. I love Disney World...I've only been 3 times, but I am obsessed and I often plan imaginary vacations just for fun. That said, if you ever need help planning one, I'm your girl!

30. My mom really wanted to name me Nicole, but my name would have been Nicole Cole - haha. So instead, she named me after a lawyer from a smutty book she read while she was pregnant with me. She claimed that she thought she was a strong person......I read the book as an adult. She was a ridiculous character, lol

31. After naming me Jennifer, my mom saw the Family Ties potential and named my younger sister Mallory. She was obsessed with the show (and with Michael J Fox) yes, we were Jenn and Mal. Interestingly, though, the show characters and the real-life versions of us were kind of swapped. I'm the brunette interested in fashion, and my sister was the blonde tomboy - it was the reverse on the show.

32. I am pretty wild about TV, and some of the shows I've been obsessed with over the years are: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and Angel), General Hospital, Full House, Friends, Lois & Clark, Desperate Housewives, Scrubs, New Girl, Pushing Daisies, Once Upon a Time, Gilmore Girls, SNL & Dancing With the Stars.

33. I am obsessed with the self-help genre, and always have a book going. I'm particularly wild about anything from Gretchen Rubin, Jerry + Esther Hicks, and Michael Newton.

Learn anything? :)

Yay for an odd-numbered age! I think 33 is going to be pretty great!
