Our Camping Trip 2014

Recently, Matt and I took our boy collection camping. We re-visited the same cabin we used last year, with my Dad parked next door with his camper, and this set up has begun to feel like a home away from home! The boys remembered being there, everything felt familiar, and it was hard to believe that a whole year had passed since we'd been there - and with one less child! I kept thinking about how cool it was that last year I was pregnant, and this time my baby was with us - trying to crawl through the mud and grass every chance he had!

We had a lot of fun, and we were blessed with absolutely incredible weather (as opposed to last year's chill and drizzle), and we alternated our time around the fire, playing on playgrounds, having fun on their jumping pillow, and visiting the camp store for ice cream and other treats. This campground has so many fun pieces to it, that you can go from playing (they have 4 playgrounds and the jumping pillow), to feeling like you're at a party at one of their fun organized events, to feeling secluded in the woods like you're "roughing it" within a span of a couple hours. It ends up feeling like a really fulfilling vacation, even though it's just a weekend - and we love it!

The one downside? The mosquitoes!  While we love the convenience and beauty of our cabin, it's right next to a stream and is within a wooded area, and there are LOTS of bugs! Some of us fared better than others (the baby didn't get anything, thankfully - poor Henry was covered!), but it was a constant battle the entire weekend. Oh well!

One of the best parts of camping is the food! There is something really novel about cooking all of your meals on a fire, and they all taste extra delicious that way, too!

Some of the yummy things we indulged in this year:

♥ Hobo pies (pizza, ham + cheese, smoked bbq turkey meatloaf, cherry pie)
♥ S'mores, made with traditional chocolate, peanut butter cups, and peppermint patties
♥ Blueberry granola campfire pancakes (what!) and sausage
♥ Salmon cooked on the fire (so, so delish) with campfire roasted corn
♥ Campfire eclairs (SERIOUSLY!)
♥ Eggs and bacon on the fire, plus toast and homefries

I was pretty much full for a week afterwards ;)

Though it's a few years off, Matt and I are talking about working towards getting a camper so we can eventually spend our Summers doing much, much more of this!

Here's some photos from our stay (and by the way - though Jake would have liked more freedom to crawl around, camping with a baby was no problem at all!):

We can't wait to go back next year!

  1. I hear you on the mosquito downfall! They've been after me like crazy the last couple of days and the itchiness does put a damper on things :\ I'm just doing regular everyday things!
But anyway...I love camping! This looks like you had such a nice trip! That list of yummy foods might've made me hungry ;)

    1. We did have a great trip, thank you! :) Hope you get some mosquito relief soon! ;)
