Dear Luke (2 Months)

Dear Lukey Baby, March 15, 2009

So, your cord stump FINALLY fell off this month!! It took 34 days! The hospital told us to expect it gone between 7-14 days! Dr. T said that yours was thicker than the average, so it probably just needed more time. Since it wasn't falling off on it's own, we started squeezing rubbing alcohol down the sides of it to dry out. This seemed to speed things up. One day I noticed a few spots on your onesie around your belly button, and by the next diaper change it was gone! I found it in your diaper :)

You did the funniest thing this month! Mommy & Daddy had you on your mat to play, and we were both sitting on either side of you. All of a sudden you started SCREAMING like you were in pain! We looked at each other like what the heck is wrong with him?! Only to realize that you had a fistful of your own hair and were pulling it! You were screaming because you were pulling it, and pulling it because you were screaming. Oh gosh, we couldn't help but laugh!! It was so hard to get you to let go of it!

At the end of February we went to ******* to visit. You did fantastic! Mommy and Daddy had a bit of a hard time at night with you, but it wasn't much different from being at our house so we dealt. You got thrush while we were there, so we had to take you to a different Pediatrician. They gave you some medicine, but I noticed while we were there that your weight wasn't quite what I thought it would be.

We started struggling a little with breastfeeding. Mommy is having a hard time keeping up with your appetite, and as a result you’re getting a little dehydrated. We had to resort to using a little formula (which seems to be helping you!) but I really hope it doesn’t mess things up for us. Time will tell – I just want what’s best for you!

You started to smile during this month! It was VERY hard to get one out of you, but you would do it if someone was willing to work hard enough to get it. It only made you more adorable, obviously :)

We were in ******* for Aunt *******'s birthday. You bought her flowers and a little balloon and a card...she loved them!

You met so many of your extended family members this month! It was a lot of fun to show you off to everyone, but it was pretty sad saying goodbye at the end of our stay. But, I have to be grateful that we were able to spend three whole weeks in *******!

I love how you are starting to come to live a little more! You’re very alert for your age and you get comments about that all the time. I’m really enjoying spending all of my days with you, little man. I’m so lucky to be your mommy!

I love you to the moon and back (times ten!),
