Summer Trip to The Lake

Sort of last minute, Matt and I decided to take the kids to the lake last weekend. We packed and prepared without them knowing, and did our best to keep it a secret. Matt took Friday off from work, and we packed the van before the kids were even out of bed that morning. Matt went to tae kwon do like he normally would, so the kids thought nothing of him leaving "for work"...only when he came back shortly after he said, "I think I'm going to skip work today and do something fun with you guys."

We didn't tell them what it was, just grabbed a few last minute things and piled into the van with a "you'll see" and took off.

As soon as we passed the tolls on the thruway, Luke knew what was up and guessed that we were going to the lake. So, the surprise didn't last very long, but it was still cool to see the shock on their faces when they realized we packed and took care of everything without them realizing.

When we got there, we all piled into the boat to go get some lunch.

Luke was adventurous and ordered pulled pork nachos for all of us to share, which were really good!

When we got back from lunch and relaxed for a bit, the boys were all ready and excited to get into the lake for some swimming and floating. It was HOT!

Can you tell which of my kids hates having his picture taken the most? lol

That evening, we watched the opening ceremonies for the olympics, ate dinner, and spent some time sitting outside on the deck before calling it a night.

The next morning, I started my day outside with my coffee, my book & the water.

Once everyone was awake and dressed, Matt and I took the kids into Penn Yan to get some breakfast. It was SO GOOD! And such a cute little place.

Yummmm. I love biscuits and gravy more than most things. :)

We spent a little time checking out some of the cute stores in Penn Yan - looking through old books, and making friends with a surprising amount of animals for just stopping in stores. It seemed like there was a pet in every one of them!

I spent a lot of the morning digesting and reading this:

The rest of the day was spent outside, collecting rocks to paint and splashing in the water.

The rest of the day was really low-key...watching whatever olympics we could catch on tv and relaxing. Just before bed, we got the boys in their pj's, grabbed some blankets, and took a night time boat ride. There were SO many stars out, it was amazing. I saw 2 shooting stars! Jake passed out in my lap and I wrapped him up in beach towels so he wasn't cold from the wind of the boat, and the sleepy guy went right to bed when we got back.

The next morning, after breakfast and packing up, we set out for home and to see our animals. I'm so glad we were able to fit a summery trip to the lake into our plans - we all had so much fun!
