Our 4th 2016

It dawned on us kind of late in the game that we were going to be all alone for the 4th with no plans. This isn't the first time it's happened, but we'd still much prefer to be with family - celebrating with a party and food and fireworks.

We somehow put a last minute picnic together with my Dad and Diane, plus Mal and Tom and their kids. We grilled, had pasta salad and beans and watermelon, followed by a flag cake for America's 240th birthday. After we ate, we played with some sparklers for a while, and then packed up to go see the fireworks.

We really weren't sure what Galli's reaction to fireworks would be, so we didn't want to take her to the huge crowd at UB. So instead, we found a spot along the bike path where we could set up. The kids had some snacks, and though we didn't have the best view of the fireworks, it was still really cool to get to see them without actually being there. And Galli did SO well! She was very interested in the small groups of people at the park with us, but during the fireworks she just lied down and cuddled up to us.
