One of my mug love sponsors, Tiffany from Hello Love Hello sent me one of her adorable mugs, and it ended up being a mug that basically defines me. Coffee, handmade, and grammar accuracy? Yep, that's me in mug form.
Oh, this just completes me!
I wanted to know more about Tiffany's shop and how she started making such adorable mugs (I also want the Cat Lady one, this funny Taylor Swift one, and how hilarious is this backards Selfie one?! Ya know, so the words show up the right way in the photo? Genius!)
She filled me in, and here's what she had to say!
I'm Tiffany, and I am a stay at home, now work at home mom of a 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter and just found out #3 is on the way. Crafting is my biggest outlet, I love painting and paper crafts and all pretty little things. I also have a new found love of snail mail and pen pals.
The first mug I ever made was for my husband a couple years ago to use at work. It was a Walt Whitman quote, "We were together. I forget the rest." After that I'd make him one here and there with inside jokes or quotes, little reminders of me and the kids throughout the day. It was fun. I was making some monogram mugs for family Christmas gifts when a friend suggested I start selling them. I laughed it off at first, but she already got it stuck in my head. So after a couple weeks, I went ahead and decided to open my Etsy shop. I have been a big Etsy shopper myself for years, so it was the first place I went.
I didn't know what to expect when I first opened my shop. My first goal was that I wanted to make enough to pay for my kids Christmas presents. Do my little part in contributing to our family income. As Christmas shopping season started up, I couldn't have imagined that my little mug business would take off like it did and by Dec 3rd, I was able to pay for all of our Christmas presents and some.
Of course, as with any business, there are going to be hurdles. There are going to be unhappy customers for one reason or another. It took me awhile to realize that no matter how friendly I try to be, and how great of customer service I offer, some people will still just be unhappy. I can't take things personally all the time. It is still a business. And for those of you dreaming of your own successful handmade business like Tiffany? Here are her words of advice for getting off the ground:
Do it. Keep dreaming and work to make those dreams real. Be confident in what you do and focus on the details. Don't give up if things don't work out at first, or are slow to start. Make changes and keep going.
If you haven't read the book #Girlboss, I highly recommend it. It became one of the biggest influences when starting my business and continues to be. Nothing comes easy, you have to work for it. Always ask yourself, "What more can I be doing?" and then go do it.You heard her, get moving! ;)
I gotta tell you, these mugs are great - they are a perfect, comfortable size for your morning cup of fuel, and the sayings and drawings on them are adorable and funny. You're going to have a hard time choosing one!
Unless you want the same one as me, because....it's pretty perfect.
Tiffany is going to let one more lucky winner chose either a copy of my There/Their/They're mug, or another mug of their choice from her shop.
