What To Do On Winter Break

The thing about winter break is that...there's not much for us to do. Don't get me wrong - I LOVE the break from carting the kids around to school and such. The lack of homework, packing lunches, and staying on top of school outfits is refreshing. So is wearing leggings 24/7. But in Buffalo, we're still in the deep freeze part of winter, so it's not even realistic to send the kids outside to play in the snow for long.

Many people travel, but since we didn't have the money to this year, we're staying put. I like a relaxed approach to our vacations, but I also don't want to squander family time and spend all of those precious hours watching the same 3 Disney movies. I'd also like to get some stuff done, so here's the list of things we're going to try to do this week.

What is your family up to?

--------

* Play with the Spin Art machine!
Luke got one for his birthday, and we haven't had batteries until this week. It's gonna be funnnn!

* Wash everyone's mittens!
We've got a good month+ of solid winter left, and those puppies have seen better days. We use them multiple times a day, so there's almost never a long enough lull to get them cleaned. Now's the time!

* Make a Ninja Turtles craft!
Because, why not? There are a ton of different types of tutorials on Pinterest, I'll narrow it down to a few of the less complicated ones and let the boys pick which one they'd like to try.

* Make a recipe or two from Wookiee Cookies !
I volunteered in Luke's school library the other day, and while I was shelving I saw this book that I just KNEW he would love! I put a hold on it so he could check it out the next day, and it's full of hilarious Star Wars themed recipes. Star Wars is NOT my jam, but it's the boys', so...such is life.

* Clean my boots!
I have some serious salt stains on my suede faux shearling boots, and it's hit a level of embarrassment. I need to try one of the tutorials out there to fix that (like this one, or this one), while I have a day or two to let them dry and recover.

* Make some spring crafts!
I have 4 different spring-themed garlands I want to make using my Cricut (I'm a garland-aholic!). I'm thinking some flowers (in springy brights for me, and in cool neutrals for my BFF), maybe one that says "warm & cozy" to layer with a homemade pom pom garland to carry us through this last month of heavy winter. I've also been envisioning an M [heart] J garland to hang above the headboard in our bedroom. I've got lots to create!

* Scrapbook!
I've been trying so hard to catch up lately (more on this later), and I'd really like to cross off Christmas 2013, Christmas 2014, and any Winter and Valentine's Day pictures I have from 2010 - now. Sigh. A lot, I know, but I would feel SO GOOD about getting that much done!

* Finish a book!
I'm currently reading Motivate Your Child by Dr. Scott Turansky & Joanne Miller, and I can't decided if I want to do Big Girl Panties by Stephanie Evanovich or The Light Between OceansThe Light Between Oceans by ML Stedman next. But between those three choices, I'd like to get through something while we're off!

* Binge watch Friends on Netflix!
Duh. Most likely while scrapbooking. (I'm about halfway through season 2)

* Play in the snow!
We've actually had to wait for the temps to come back above zero for this one, and the kids are dying to get out there!

* Have a family movie night!
Blankets, popcorn, netflix, low lights...can't wait!

I think we're gonna be busy! ;)
