Welcome to my living room! ;)
This is where we spend the majority of our time - watching cartoons and movies, doing puzzles, playing with toys, hosting our private afternoon dance parties, shout at our losing sports teams, and open our gifts to the light of our tree on Christmas morning. It is probably the most important, most used, and most loved room of our home.
For a long time, I was unhappy with it. First it was the layout of the furniture, but I figured that part out a while ago. Then it was the fact that there was nothing on the walls - no evidence of us, nothing pretty to lay our eyes on. Now, I may have gone overboard with that last part, but the end result is cozy and comfy, and that's what I'm going for. I spend a lot of time in this room with my babies, and I want it to feel like it represents the coziest, softest blanket and a big squeezy hug.
A couple months ago, I FINALLY tackled the gallery wall I'd been dreaming of. It was a labor of love - collecting thrifted frames and choosing which photos I wanted to hang. Plus one very long day of spray painting, organizing and re-organizing the layout of everything, and then a couple hours actually putting it all on the wall. When I look at it now, I'm reminded of all the things that were done to make it happen - the trips to garage sales and thrift stores, even the day I sat down and painted a picture of our Charlotte house. A lot went into this, really!
You can see the whole process and some really great tips I picked up as I was working on it right here: How to Make a Perfect Gallery Wall
I love the bright, contrasting pastels on the frames, and the little hearts worked into the collage. My favorite thing, of course, are my beautiful boys' faces at varying stages of their lives. I love having their newborn pictures grouped together on the bottom left, and seeing the contrast between each of their mid-first-year pictures. I stare at these photos all the time - they always make me smile.
By the way - the white square on the right is a mirror. I've gotten at least 3 "so what's going in the white square?" and "what's the blank one for?" questions so far. When you're sitting in the living room, it reflects the ceiling and sort of looks like the wall color. Too funny!
When I'm sitting in my chair, nursing Jake, crocheting, or watching one of my favorite shows, this gallery wall is to my right, and I love to glance over and and lay eyes on my babies. It makes this room such a happy one for me! You're getting a sneak peak of tomorrow! ;)
