Red One & Blue Party Planning (decor)

My littlest is going to be ONE in two months.

AH!

(Insert cliche about how fast the last year has been and how I don't know how this is possible.)

He's doomed to have Patriotic birthday parties forever and ever amen, being that he was born in July. It's especially dooming for him, because in recent years, we've adopted the big family 4th party, what with our fun acre of land - and I'm sorry, but I'm not cleaning, baking, planning, decorating (etc etc etc) for two super large parties within 11 days of each other. Nope, not gonna happen.

Naturally, we've decided to combine them this year.

I typically operate on a big-shebang for the first birthday and then little pizza & cake gatherings for the following years system for the boys. Granted, I'm saying this with only one other child's worth of experience, but I digress. I simply don't have the money, time, or patience to do a big pretty theme thing every single year. So I put A LOT into Luke's first birthday (a cross post for another day perhaps), and I plan to do the same for Henry!

The official theme I've chosen is: RED, ONE AND BLUE

Oh my gosh, did you die of cheesy cuteness? I almost did when I thought of it.

It's time to move beyond the theme and the Facebook save the date I sent around, and get my ducks in a row! Invitations have to go out in a month, for cryin' out loud!

Because it's sort of the meat & potatoes of party planning, I'm starting out with my decor ideas. The party is being planned to take place largely outdoors, where we'll have two (possibly more) small pop up tents (think the cube-shaped small-ish ones you'd see at a craft show). We also have our patio furniture, and will line up tables against the house for food. Because we just never know about rain, I'm going to prepare the inside of the house, too.

Here's a bunch of things I would like to do (though not exact in every case), thanks to Pinspiration!

Stay tuned for ideas on food, fun for the kids, cakes (one to serve and one to smash!), favors and little details, and a whole lot of crafting! If you come across any great Independence Day inspired party ideas, I'd love to see them!

  1. Hi stopping by from SITS, my birthday is July 3rd! I think the patriotic theme is cute, as he gets older he will let you know if he wants different. Stopping by from SITS!

  2. Stopping by from SITS - I'm a July baby too (10th!). All my life I've had patriotic themed birthdays - but I never really mind since a party is a party! I love some of these decorating ideas and they would even work for Memorial Day - which I'll try out!
